Laissez Faire

Regarding the Wiggles: Landon is obsessed with these Australian preschool crooners. Greg, the yellow Wiggle, is like the Justin Timberlake of the group. He always seems to be front and center and does the bulk of the singing. Anthony, blue, is starting to go gray up top, but he has sideburns so he's OK in my book. Murray and Jeff, red and purple respectively, are kind of the awkward looking ones who play instruments in the background. What really makes the ensemble complete is the spasticity of Captain Feathersword the Friendly Pirate. Mr. Feathersword swashbuckles his way through musical numbers with grace and sophistication and I wouldn't trust anybody else to swing about on a chandellier in an arena full of four year olds. Now, what really dogs me about these so-called Wiggles, is a certain background dancer in their employ. He is known simply as Ben, but he is much reviled in my household. He's the kind of background dancer that you can just see being pulled aside after the show and being told, "Hey mate, we're the Wiggles, not you. You're distracting the children, you're upstaging us and you're blocking Jeff's keylight."

Still there?

This, quite possibly, could be the finest season of 24. People are biting it left and right, Jack yells all the time, Chloe has her eyes set to roll, and "there's no time!" Usually during the course of a season, there's an utterly ridiculous plot device that sours several episodes, but so far I haven't felt that way this time around. With twelve more episodes to go, there's still time. Or is there?

So I'm in the market for a new line of work. I know what I'd like to do but there don't seem to be too many openings I can apply for at the moment. Sooner or later I'm going to just have to take a job to pay the bills, which will be a bummer if it has to be that way. I miss my old job at CSUMB, but who knows if one like that will ever open up for me, and if it does where will it be? There are only so many options nearby. We'll just have to wait and see what's in store.

Baseball season is only a week away from beginning. I'm excited, but I don't know how long I'll be able to sustain that excitement. I know that the Barry Bonds situation is going to be beat like a dead horse all season long. If he happens to pass Ruth or Aaron, oh man. I personally don't really care one way or another about steroids, I just want to have fun watching a game. Some of the stuff these guys put into their bodies is pretty heavy duty stuff, but most of the things that are contraband in sports are things that you can go down to GNC and buy without any hassle. I think it was during the Olympics that somebody got kicked off the team for using one of those hair restoration drugs because the drug could also, in theory, be used as a masking agent. Odds are the guy didn't want to have a shiny dome in front of a worldwide audience, but it was "illegal" so he had to go.

Ham on the Street. Wednesday nights at 10:30 on Food Network. Be there.

What's That About Ladies' Frames?

If football games lasted fifteen minutes, Oregon would have dethroned the national champions today. Of course, they last sixty minutes, so the Ducks had no such luck and USC won 45-13.

Niners-Cowboys mañana. This is pretty much my Super Bowl this year. If we win, it was a successful season.

The new Project 86 album is but mere days away. I'm excited.

The Hip Hop Smoke Shop in Vallejo is having a Back To School Sale.

First and Goal

I've been at my new job for just over a week now and everything is going pretty well. Everybody is really nice, which helps because I feel a little out of place at times being by far the youngest person there. Hopefully age won't be a big deal as times goes on. The work is challenging, there are a lot of deadlines and goals to reach, so it's keeping me really busy. That's fine though, it makes the day go by much faster than a job where you twiddle your thumbs.

The Giants are on a little mini-roll and have actually slipped into second place in the NL West. Ten games under .500, but still in second place. That's just crazy. The 49ers have also showed signs of life at times in preseason, so maybe there's hope for a little excitement still to come this fall.

Project 86 have begun posting new songs off of their soon to be released album. I like what I hear so far. I feel like each of their albums gets progressively better than the last, so naturally it raises the bar high enough to where I would be disappointed if a new CD didn't measure up. I don't think that's going to be a problem here.

The new TV season is going to be rolling out soon. I'm ready. There's only so much Law & Order one can take during the summer when nothing else is on. I'm going to try and get back into West Wing this season and I'm looking forward to the old staples coming back. Even as time goes by I start to anticipate Lost, in all its plot development stinginess.
